Kevin Kaminsky-Varsity Head Coach
Kevin is starting his 2nd year as Head Coach of the Highwood Heat. Kevin was a Highwood Small Fry player for two years and has been on the coaching staff for 14 years.  One of Kevin's favorite basketball experiences is playing in the International Tournament.  He has been working with children on the North Shore of Chicago since 2001. He has served as a coach, coordinator, supervisor, mentor, and director in various organizations. Currently, Kevin is in his 4th year working full-time as an Assistant Director for Camp Horseshoe and Head Director of Horseshoe Basketball Camp. Kevin spent three years in charge of numerous youth sports programs for the Park District of Highland Park, as well as assuming the role of Highland Park’s Feeder Basketball Coordinator. Coach Kaminsky was Varsity Assistant at Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL, and has coached various AAU travel programs. In high school, Kevin spent three years as a varsity starter for Coach Rick Malnati, during which time he lead the New Trier Trevians downstate in 1996. He played college basketball at NCAA Division II Eckerd College in Florida, and NCAA Division III Carthage College in Wisconsin.

Rob Nardini-Varsity Assistant Coach
Rob is entering his 17 years as a coach with Highwood Small Fry.  Rob is a former Highwood Small Fry player on the 1973 team.  Rob is a graduate of Highland Park High School. Coach Nardini has coached youth sports for the past 25 years.  For the past 17 season Coach, Nardini has coached at Vernon Hills High School where he is the Head Freshman Girls’ Basketball Coach.  He resides in Vernon Hills Illinois.  He enjoys his time spent with his wife of 34 years, Leslie, his children Laura, Alison and Robby ( a five-year small fry player), and grandchildren. Coach Nardini enjoys following the career of all former Small Fry players and hopes that he in some small way has been a positive influence on all his former players. 

Jason Chaplain
Jason Chaplain has been coaching youth basketball for the last seven years.  He currently coaches with Finish Stong Athletics. Jason coached the Leyden Junior Eagles for three years and ran the Leyden Summer Camp Feeder Program for four years.  He assisted in summer camps at Loyola and Concordia Universities.  Jason played three years of varsity basketball at Leyden High School and four years with an AAU  club. Along with his experience, Jason also brings a love for the game and enjoys sharing it with aspiring basketball players of all ages.  Jason was voted The Daily Herald News All-Area in 2007 and played on the Concordia University Basketball team his freshman year.  Jason focuses on instilling a desire in his players to always play hard and finish strong.   Jason currently resides in Franklin Park as he finishes his degree in Physical Education.


Nate Scheck
Nate Scheck is a full-time staff member with Finish Strong Athletics and has been coaching kids for the past several years.  Nate played Varsity football, as well as three years of Varsity basketball at Deerfield High School.  In 2010, Nate was fortunate enough to see his team’s years of hard work pay off as he played on a Deerfield basketball team that won 25 games. Coach Nate has served as a Camp Counselor at Camp Horseshoe for the past three years and has coached in the Deerfield Feeder Basketball Program.  Through his experiences, Nate has found a true passion for helping children learn to better themselves inside and outside the lines. His relentless energy and focus on effort, helps children learn how to approach sports and life in a positive manner. Nate’s biggest goal, of course, is every kid has fun while playing sports!
